“George Mallory’s memorable quotation as to why he wanted to climb Everest.  He died in 1924 attempting an ascent in mountaineering gear so basic as to have been little more than tweeds, yet he may have been the first person to stand on the summit.  One of a tough breed!

I am no George Mallory and my motivation is somewhat different.  In recent years I have devised challenges to raise awareness for charities.  Next on the agenda is a solo ascent of the Matterhorn, a mountain shaped as if drawn by a child and steeped in history.  In Summer 2022, pandemic permitting, I will be viewing the imposing Lion Ridge from Italy, no doubt with some trepidation.

Join me as I relate my journey from an ascent of Snowdon with my father and sister at the age of 5 to an attempt on the Matterhorn aged 65.”
