“ Dancing in the Breeze”
(Lesley Burge)
Lesley first posted her poem on Facebook on January 24th with the following words:
“It’s been a somewhat emotional weekend. Yesterday when walking, holding in my heart family and friends who have passed on, the words dancing in the breeze came in my thoughts and other words and images collected and resonated with me. Here is the result, may those of you who read it find comfort in your own way.”
On getting in touch with her about using this poem or others she may have written, she said; “believe it or not this was my first time putting pen to paper in a poetic way. I’ve even surprised myself. The urge to write down my thoughts in such a way was so strong. Now I have started I seem to have unleashed creativity, and, I do want to keep this going now it’s started, as it was very soothing.
So the poem is a first for Lesley and also reflects some very personal experiences. Although written in the middle of winter she extends the notion of “ dancing in the breeze” to all four seasons as a sort of quartet.
Dancing in The Breeze
In the coming of the Spring, as the blossom unfurls,
As white snowdrops and golden daffodils bow their heads
And the gentle warmth of sunlight spreads in the air;
I feel you dancing in the breeze.
As the Summer heat evokes the flowers scent,
The sun’s brightness sparkles as diamonds on the water‘s surface and the waves ripple gentle to the shore,
As the balmy air caresses my face,
I feel you dancing in the breeze.
As the Autumn leaves, red, amber, russet and gold pirouette in the air,
And the starlings swoop and swirl in their evening song;
With the moon radiance offering beams of light to see me through the ever long night,
I see you dancing in the stars.
As Winter’s frost glistens on tree branches bare and sugar coats the ground,
As snow flutters softly, gently and the cold crisp air catches my breath,
I feel you dancing in the breeze.
In every day, in every season,
You are with me dancing in the breeze.
